Frameworks 2025

Venue: Gullivers & The Castle Hotel

Date: 7th of June 2025

Frameworks Festival is a day Festival held in Manchester at two venues: Gullivers and the Castle Hotel, Which is neither a castle nor a hotel.

This is the festival's second year running, and showcases new and upcoming bands from all over the UK

Pushbike

Pushbike are an emo/screamo band from Exeter. They are the first band I'd planned to see at the festival and we're a great introduction to today's line up.

The band have a late noughties sound that I feel strongly connected to and I could have listened to them in 2007, Maybe they have time travelled to 2025?

Bet you know is a punky-bop at 2 and a half minutes with about 5 words, whilst Everything (but not all at once) is a heavier approach.

Another Country$$$$

An electronic twoer up next at the Castle - one on beats one on drums.

Some calming melodic moments building up to some glitchy breakouts results in a 30 mins trance like state set.

Body Farm is the latest EP released in January 2025 which is a collab project with BUFFEE and Crimewave

For Fans of Boards Of Canada

Bathing Suits

I had only heard one track from this band briefly so took a chance on them. They had a relentless heavy distorted sound but at the same time pop-y danceable beats.

It was all a bit of a mad one, but just about held together which I think is part of their magic.

Open Fly

Not heard anything from these before, so went in blind.

Doomy bass, and punk riffs. It felt very raw and in your face. They were full energy and got the mosh pit going (I'd just eaten a toastie so stood at the side like a wimp)

I can only find this live show from them online where they are dressed as teletubbies

Telletubbies live set

check it out!

BUFFEE

Solo artist BUFFEE creates a mix of loopy pop tunes and PC Music style hyper-pop bangers with all the dials turned to full bloop.

There are a few tracks which chop and and change styles throughout the track, like ethereal vocals loops that break down into an industrial style beat.

Cowboyy

Now we have some math rock at Gullivers to close out Frameworks Circa 2025

Cowboyy are a band from ....the south? They have cool tappy guitar solos and some spoken word style lyrics Similar to the band Slint, but are self aware enough that they are trying to make something new and reference this in the lyrics to 'algorithmic'

Gmaps was a favourite from this set, I love the quick delivery of lyrics and the bouncy feel from the bass against the infectious riff.

They Currently only have one EP out called 'Epic The Movie' Lookin forward to some new tracks from Cowboyy soon.
