Band:The Deadlians

Venue:The Rat and Pigeon

Date:13th of May 2025

Support: The Great Unwashed

This is the first time I've seen The Deadlians. They played at the Rat and Pigeon in Manchester as part of the 'Rid the Land of Greedy Toads' tour across the UK in aid of the new album of the same name.

The support band were The Great Unwashed who are new to me, and a fantastic shoegazey/post rock blend. Slow gradual build ups to massive wall of sound finishes. Will defo be checking these out for any upcoming gigs

Live at Peel Hall EP - The Great Unswashed

The Deadlians are a 5 piece Garage/psych/folk rock band from Dublin. They played mostly new tracks with a few from the previous album such as I Dont Wanna Ride your Aul One Anymore which is the song that introduced them to me.

The Band kept up the intensity with punky riffs and danceable fiddle breaks/Small trumpet solos, with a small interlude where they had to get an audience member to get some pints in from the downstairs bar (it was a hot one TBF)

One of the songs Jaws, is a song about sharks eating the internet fibre optic cables underneath the Atlantic, which good for that shark, it's their ocean.

Sharks chomping cables

They finished the set with Cheeky Monkey, which was a personal Highlight for me as that's been on rotation since the album came out. It's a song about being a cheeky monkey. There are some great lyrics such as "do you have a man in the clouds speaking to you" and Portuguese sailors "mapping the rivers and streams"

Overall a great band and look forward to seeing them again soon.
