I saw Alien Chicks at the end of last year, when I caught most of their set at Night and Day Cafe supporting English Teacher.
Although Heavily influenced by black midi and bands from that scene, they have their own unique stripped back style of Zappa/Mr. Bungle manic change ups within one track. I can hear Nirvana bass lines leading into Talking Heads rhythms and then they change it up with some math rock riffs.
They are as frantic live as they are on your discover weekly. As the songs change from one style to another the band steer themselves, usually into a melodic noisy satisfying smush.
Highlight of the night was Candlestick Maker, amazing riff, manic laughter, drowned in guitar. They are releasing a new EP this year with "Cowboy" as the lead single.
